To the left is the front part of the instrument, the part that would be seen if I were to play it in front of you. To the right is the backside of the instrument. As you can see, there is a board drilled to the pipes allowing a strap to be worn around the users shoulders. There are a lot of science aspects to my instrument. In order to build it so it played the proper notes, I had to find the wavelength of a note and use a quarter of it. This is because percussion instruments are a quarter of the wavelength of the note. Once I found the length, I took the PVC pipe and cut it down to the appropriate length of the note. The longer tubes had a lower frequency because they were longer. The amplitude can be changed when playing them by either hitting them softer or harder. More is explained in the document below, not only for myself, but for my teammates as well. |
